Redwood Sizes Guide
Also known as Scots Pine, this is a hugely popular light-coloured, knotty, resinous wood, and is the principal joinery timber across Europe. Although not durable without treatment, redwood is a strong and stable softwood which polishes well, though knots and resin can cause finishing problems. For the planed all round (PAR) sections in the right hand column, the original sawn dimension is given first, followed by the measured or 'finished' size in brackets.The sawn sections of unsorted redwood in the left hand column can all be planed to order. If you are doing interior joinery, and are looking for sections that are clear of knots, please enquire about our Tulipwood.

Unsorted Redwood - Sawn European Redwood (Pinus Sylvestris) is sorted in the Scandinavian mills to several different grades. 'Unsorted' is a mixture of the top four grades I-IV, and is suitable for general joinery work. (If you are looking for knot-free sections please enquire about our Tulipwood.) Price is per lineal metre plus V.A.T.

Douglas Fir (Clears)
Reddish-brown with distinctive figuring, a strong softwood for high class work available in virtually knot-free boards. Accepts varnish, but can be resistant to staining.

Southern Yellow Pine
Straw coloured sapwood with reddish brown heartwood. Interior joinery. As with most timber these boards must be sealed all round with a proprietary sealant such as Osmo Polyx, or Danish Oil. Please call for available lengths.
